Author's Notes for Kids

So I wrote another story for bb_shousetsu, Kids.

I've always wanted to write a Bang Bang story about a transguy, and now I finally have! Hoorah.

Yes, this story was in fact named after the popular musical stylings of MGMT. I try to avoid naming things after songs, but I couldn't think of anything else, and that was one of the songs I listened to on repeat a billion times while writing this, so I guess I broke my own rule. There are worse things.

One of the things I wanted to do with this story was provide Sakata with some privacy. Stories about transpeople often kind of fetishize the transitioning process, so it was important to me to write something that didn't. That's why there some stuff is sort of glossed over - well, that, and my desire to return to BBS's roots by writing something that could have come out of BexBoy. Hopefully I succeeded at least somewhat in both these things.

Uh, for those wondering, when Nakajima and Sakata finally do it, it will be ridiculously unlike that dream sequence in that Sakata will also be horribly awkward instead of uh, yeah.

The best thing about finishing this is that now I finally get to read Hourou Musuko by Shimura Takako, which is by all accounts a totally awesome manga about a pair of transgendered kids. By the time I heard about it, I was already thinking about this story, and I didn't want to subconciously plagarize.

Finally, thanks to spacetart for reassurance.
