So I've been playing Suikoden Teirkreis!
First, the bad: I really, really wish they just hadn't used voice acting. The voices sound really tinny and bad, and you can tell even the good actors are talking reallyreallyreally fast to try and take up less space. And... would it have killed them to find decent actors for the MAIN CHARACTERS? The protagonist is not that great, Jale and Marica are okay, but Liu sounds like a parody of a bad anime dub. Shams is similarly bad. I will say I was shocked that Manaril's voice is excellent - really sweet without being precious or cloying.
The only other real negative I can think of is the lack of bathhouse, letter box, detective... actually even one of those things would have been okay, but leaving all three out takes away pretty much all room for character development and interaction for optional characters. And that is sad.
On to the good!
I love the plot. I love the quest system. I love having a speaking protagonist. I love the gorgeous, gorgeous locations. I love that this is probably the first game involving polygamous marriage to make it onto a Nintendo console. I love Chrodechild. I love Asad. I love that Asad pretty clearly wants to be Chrodechild's waifu. After some getting used to the art style, I love the character designs.
This game is good! (Plus I'm just so, so happy the series isn't dead yet.) Who else has played it?
