I'm on the third disc, probably close to the end. This is definitely the worst Star Ocean game to date (although I never played Eternal Sphere) but I still like it. Low points are the massive cutscenes (and I sat through Xenosaga, so that's saying something), uneven voice acting (Sarah and Lymle are so bad. ;_;), and Dollfie-like character models. Also I wish Meracle wore more clothing, that would be nice.
I knew Arumat was going to be my favourite the second I saw his design. Military dude dressed like a hooker, in the style of Albel Nox? Plus a giant purple energy scythe? APPROVED. The female characters sort of feel like a letdown after the fucking awesomeness that is Nel, although I do like Myuria, and shockingly Reimi is really badass sometimes.
Plot is good. Except for the bit where Edge was being a jackass, that was boring. I mean, I respect his angst, but the game could have handled it better. I really like Faize's character arc. And it's nice to be able to visit lots of different worlds, for once.
You know what I want to see in the next SO game, if there is one? A genuinely non-human-looking playable character. I mean, like a Cardianon or something. Catgirls and birdgirls and elves with massive honking ears are all well and good, but if you're going to have aliens in a game, freaking have aliens in the game already, not just fantasy races in space.
