Pixies and Film

Aug 10, 2005 01:40

guess what?! My vacation to Barbados isn't a vacation at all! It's more of a "let's put you in another climate and you can read your textbooks for next year and make notes with your laptop!". Haha, a workaholics work is never done. I was going to relax by coding websites, and trying to find an internet connection. Yet, look on the bright side...more time to work on my films. Anyone care to read my concepts?

  • Weird Girl’s First Date-they watch Tromeo and Juliet and the whole concept of the film is her as she’s getting ready for the first date. Geek Boy esque character as the love interest. A Nat meets May Kennedy (from the movie May) as our protagonist Weird Girl. Surreal characters, quirky humour, lots of strange references to my own life. Tons of irony. Crazy alternative indie rock soundtrack...like The Pixies! More blood than you can shake a Troma film at. "What? You never want to see me again. I thought you liked me! I thought we both like PIE! *STABS*"...just channeling my inner Cecil B. Demented...huzzah...the John Waters puns are beginning to ensue! Quick! Get the wannabe art freak to the sanitorium! Now!
  • I Swear! I am Sylvia Plath!-Crazy boy believes he is actually Sylvia Plath reincarnated. Based off of a short story I was planning to either expound into a novel or just leave as is. Lots of Drama, perhaps a bit of slash if I can get someone that cool to do it (Ted Hughes, why did you leave me? *kiss*), humour, historical references to Sylvia Plath, poetry. If I can’t get slash, I’ll just make the person whom he believes is Ted Hughes into a girl (gender bending androgyny. woot woot.), I suppose. But slash is better! Some Aphex Twin, some Chopin...minimalist electronica and classical piano music (because I am *that* pretensious of a film student.)
  • Cat House- A girl’s best friend is a cat who once was Friedrich Nietzsche (I am literally obsessed with this man.Obsessed.) Mainly a huge social commentary on being an outcast, suburbia, and just all round angst. Main character prides herself on having a realitively angst free life...though we realize later on...that this is not the case. Darkly comedic satire of my life. (Because I love dark comedy). Named after the Danielle Dax song of the same name.  Shoegazer sounds and  old school goth rock soundtrack.
  • Silariel- A changeling/faery wants to go home. She’s an outcast in real society and she wants to go back to the Unseelie Realm. Lots of Wiccan and Faery references. Lots of Kate Bush and Tori Amos in the soundtrack. Really surreal like a Jean Cocteau film. My first attempt at a dramatic fantasy movie. Etheral sounds...Dead Can Dance, The Cranes...
  • Coin Operated Boy-A girl wants to make the perfect boyfriend. Adorable short silent film/music video set in the 20’s. Soundtrack is “Coin Operated Boy-Dresden Dolls”. Kind of a mix of Charlie Chaplin, May and Frankenstein with my signature humour...just without words. Protagonist crashes into alot of things. It'll be box set heaven (If I have the time I'll do a Cabinet of Dr. Caligari esque set)! Cute costumes as well!
  • I Want to be Just Like David Lynch- There’s a wannabe director, who wants to be just like David Lynch. Strange surrealism, imagery and all.David Lynch...eat your heart out, because I shall perfect your art! And there’s an industrial band. Hehehe...stompy industrial and loads of electronica.
Any reoccuring themes? I want to see how I can post these film projects for you to see. Any ideas? I'm dead set on this film course...so if I'm crazilly ranting about it...y'know why! My favourite Pixies song of the moment is Bone Machine...the best Pixies album has to probably be Doolittle or Surfer Rosa...but in my observation, there are *no* bad Pixies song, so it's hard to say which Pixies song is the best. Where is My Mind or Here Comes Your Man is probably the most accessable, but there are some great ones...like Subbacultcha...or Bone Machine. The stuff featuring Kim Deal is amazing though. Kim Deal is one of my favourite musicians...period. Anyone care to shed light on their favourite Pixies song (if you listen to The Pixies)? Three days....three days...*shivers*
