I don't like to talk about work much here...or anywhere for that matter. But last night I had to attend a corporate schmoozefest and I am pretty sure I was the only female there under the age of forty. The very definition boring! However, the Mayor of Coquitlam was there and I was pleasantly surprised by his speech. Not only was he engaging, self-deprecating and very casual for a politician, but he had some amazing ideas regarding buildings (mostly relaxing zoning issues). I am totally fascinated by public policy regarding such things, and how we can encourage cities to allow things such as Passivhaus, pre-fab homes or even such shockingly simple things as flat roof design (there are places in East Van for example where you absolutely cannot build a flat roof home). I can hear the modernists cringing.

Obviously I could go on and on about this but I will stop it there. This has turned into a little rant on community planning, which I wasn't intending when I sat down to write. Perhaps I should be changing careers yet again hahaha
