Well I don't know if she was "officially" Jewish - that is, I don't know whether or not she was ever an active participant in the Jewish community (she passed away in 2004, so I will never know). Her mother, however, was, and came to this country at around 14 years of age from Yugoslavia, to avoid persecution. Later in life she converted to Roman Catholicism... so, it's all rather confusing to me, especially because I will never know the facts. :\
At this point in time I'm not actively involved with Islam, though of course I hold to the basic values that are, of course, essential to Islam and Judaism alike. Around the time of my mother's death I was becoming more involved in the Jewish community, and was considering converting - maybe even becoming a rabbi (if possible, I confess I am not familiar with Halakha).
But, enough of my rambling. It's great to have you as a part of our little community! Perhaps your presence will help bridge the religious gap, and we can all enjoy learning about our lovely similarities and differences. Welcome! :)
Basically, if your mother's Jewish, so are you. So not only was your mother Jewish, but so are you, at least 'nationality wise'. Obviously beliefs have nothing to do with what you're born.
Technically you wouldnt need to convert, but I suppose some groups like to do it for good measure. And yes, you would be fully allowed to be a Rabbi (but only in a Reform and maybe Reconstructional Synagogue).
I do want to mention that I started a group last night called modest_wear that's designed for the purpose of bringing women of differnt religions who practice a form of religious/spiritual/etc covering. If you like check it out, if not thats cool too, lol. I really love bridging gaps between groups that so often people want to seperate.
Okay I'm gunna make my introduction in the V_D now though, after about an hour of saying Im going to and getting distracted haha!
