Happy Birthday Robert!
30 years ago, the first of four children was born, paving the way for his siblings through trial and error. People seem to remember death days more so than birthdays, but the birthday is the most important day of anyone's life-- it is the first day of your life. Without a birthday, you would not exist to have a death day.
So why be solemn on this day? We are celebrating the birth and life of an individual; the life of a wonderful person, who touched our lives and helped form us into the people we are today. Who would Robert be if he were still alive today? Where would he be living? What would he be doing? Those answers are difficult to answer since life is constantly changing. I know what Robert is doing today. I know who he is and where he is living. I know all about the person that Robert is today. Robert is in Corpus Christi resting up and preparing for a new school year; Robert is in Corpus Christi living life to its fullest with good friends and a loving family; Robert is in Grand Prairie rocking a baby to sleep; Robert is in Grand Prairie drooling all over his mother and making lots of noise; Robert is in Lubbock working with wonderful people and sharing time with people special to him; Robert is everywhere sharing the lives of everyone he has touched-- living through them and with them in their hearts.
Do not feel sorry for me or my family. Do not feel sadness for his death. Be happy that he was born and shared so many memories with all of us.
Life is not about trying to accumulate the most things before you die. Life is about living. Life is about doing what you want to do and not letting anyone stand in your way. Do not linger on the past, it will only bring you down. Use the past as a way of making your life better. Have that extra piece of pie with appreciation for the fact that you are able to have pie in the first place. Live each day as it were your last, while planning your life as if you will live forever. This next point I cannot stress enough: Tell your family and friends how much they mean to you every day. Love is our strongest weapon. Love keeps people from falling apart. Everyone needs to know that someone cares-- otherwise, what point is there to living? God loves us and tells us that he does every day through warm sunshine, green grass, cool rain, nourishing food, big hugs, fuzzy kitties and puppies, cheerful giggling, cuddly bodies, loving family and friends, and everything else around us. If life isn't going the way you had planned, then alter the plan and keep going! Celebrate your life everyday!
Happy Birthday Robert Richard Godeke. We miss you!
