Okay, so, last week, forces upon high handed down a decision concerning YRUU SWUUSI Camp.

- It's in a new location, near Fort Worth, which isn't so bad in itself... if the rest of SWUUSI was coming with it!
- It will be 3 weeks earlier than Main Camp SWUUSI, which removes YRUU entirely from the rest of the commUUnity, like the adults, and YA.
- There will be air condition and a cooking staff, which will take away ownership of the YRUU experience and not cause people to bond over the heat in swims at the lake or seeking a cool spot in the icebox or the dining hall.
 - It will have a relatively small youth population cap (102 or thereabouts?), and with the growth of SWUUSI over the last few years (we were talking about having to move to Group Camp 2 at Lake Murray because we outgrew the 125 (?) cap at GC3), this is just a terrible idea.

This decision was made entirely devoid of youth involvement. They told us, this is how it is. Scotty Christian, who is ON the  SWUUSI Board, had no idea of this.

This doesn't exactly smack of youth empowerment, which is one of the pillars of YRUU.

Well, needless to say, we being young UU rabble-rousers, we had a chatroom to concert our actions.

We came up with such as follows..

- Valerie Vied is e-mailing Susan Smith (the District Exec) asking questions concerning the benefits of the move, the whys and wherefores, etc.
- The rest of us are convening again at Sunday at 7 PM on AIM to discuss this further with, hopefully, more info under our belts. More action will be taken concerning this, as we have more info and a better plan of action. So, if you wanna be in this chat, IM any UU you have on your AIM and ask for an invite, and if they're not in it, both of you look for an invite.

In the mean time.. inform people about this! Most people don't even know. Tell Directors of Religious Education. Tell Ministers. Tell parents. Tell Young Adults. Tell Young Religious Unitarian Universalists. Tell anyone who has any relation to SWUUSI whatsoever, and get them involved.

YRUU is too important to let this pass.
