catching up

Ho hum, time as always is lacking to make entries here.

Meddyg and I went to Canterbury to visit younger daughter,
faerieenigma , two weekends ago. We stayed in a nice old pub called the King's Head, in a tiny but totally charming beamed room. Unfortunately, there was no time to enjoy the bar downstairs: a proper old-fashioned one with a pile of board and card games in one corner for people to use. I'd love to go back for a lazy stay, preferably when the weather is foul, so as to have the excuse to lounge about, play games and read.

On Sunday, we went out to Reculver fort, Herne Bay and Whistable. It was freezing cold with winds and drizzle, but I wanted to take some pebbles from the beach at Herne Bay. I searched the car for a plastic bag to use. Lo and behold, there was a bag under the driver's seat and inside was a pack of cigarettes Meddyg had bought when we were en route to Wales at the start of February. It is now more than a month since we listened to the hypnosis tape and neither of us has smoked. We looked at the pack and then went down to water's edge and ceremonially threw the cigarettes one by one into the sea. It was an amazingly liberating moment :))

Last weekend, we went to a hafla organised  by my belly dance teacher. It was good fun, because the performers were a mixture of solo and group and a variety of styles. There was classical Eygptian, some  very freeform choreography, dancing with cane,  tribal and my current favourite: melaya leff, a sassy dance from Alexandria. I love the costume worn for this. I'm too old to dance anything like this in public, but it would be  nice to learn it for a private performance for  my beloved (who incidentally enjoyed the evening very much). Here is a melaya leff performance I found on youtube.

Last Tuesday I must have worked too hard at the belly dance class, because was soooo sore the next day, and it is only just wearing off now. Apologies,
missysedai, I didn't reply when you asked last time what we were doing. As ever, life got in the way of LJ. It is dead simple, but I can 't get my head round it very well, although I managed better last time than  before:
step forward with right foot - hip out
step backwards with right foot - hip out
Do this four times while doing a single rotation anticlockwise.
Then, two side steps left, with arms held on right side of head - and then switch over and two steps right.  And repeat.
Lift arms to count of eight while raising one hip and then the other alternately.
Left arm up, right framing hip, four side steps right - and then switch over and repeat.
Repeat whole sequence, but this time stepping with left foot and rotating clockwise, and then doing side steps the other way round.

Right now I'm with Meddyg for the weekend. We went to visit Durham yesterday afternoon,  because I have never seen the cathedral. I was clutching a book to release somewhere for a Bookcrossing release challenge. We went downstairs and as we passed the Undercroft cafe, I saw a table piled with books. "Looks like a Bookcrossing meet", I said jokingly. Then I looked more closely, and spotted someone with a BC T shirt. It was a BC meet! So I dropped my book there, and we had coffee, cake and a good chat. One of the participants was suedo, who had been my recipient for the Valentine NSS on BCUK, so it was nice to meet her in person. I came out with two new books to read (oh dear!) and Meddyg grabbed a copy of Claudia Rosen's classic cookbook of Middle Eastern cookery, so I'm looking forward to a feast of marvels soon as this is one of our favourite cuisines.

Friday week we fly off the the Greek Bookcrossing Symposium in Athens - hooray! I've managed to find eleven books from participants' wishlists to take with me :))
