Kickboxing

So for awhile now, I've been going to kickboxing. MMA-style kickboxing, none of that video stuff. It's absolutely awesome and fun and incredibly exhausting. I had to take a hiatus from it for surgery recover, and now that I'm back, I'm noticing how hard it is to reteach myself how to breathe through my nose when working out. My mind automatically goes to "breathe through your mouth. stop complaining that your throat is dry", but now that I've had the insides of my nose reconstructed, I can actually breathe better now.

It makes me wonder how long this perforation had been there. I've never really been good with sports or running and going up stairs would make me breathe hard. I remember back in elementary school with that stupid physical fitness test. I could pass everything EXCEPT running. Even the V-sit (I held the school record for that one), but I could never ever run. I'd get lightheaded and end up slowing down.

And in college with the ROTC training. I would run so hard and as fast as my breathless body could take me that I'd actually fainted while running a few times. I wanted so desperately to pass that PFT and get my chevrons, but I could never do it. 2 miles is a long way, when you think about it, and I just don't like running.

So now, it's kickboxing. It's pretty fun and hopefully when I rebuild my endurance and relearn to breathe right, I'll be able to keep up with everyone. The coaches there are so encouraging, though. I never feel like I'm a loser just cuz I can't physically keep up yet.

And surprisingly after beating myself into the ground yesterday, I don't feel sore today. and I actually slept, which is always a good thing

Super amazing cross-post magic! http://satrugha.dreamwidth.org/6323.html
