Author's Note: As promised, a drabble for the Music Challenge. The song is Why Do Fools Fall in Love, covered by many, many people, but originally by Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers.

Misty always though Ash was an idiot. He was tactless, brash and with a gift for stating the obvious. He was enthusiastic about Pokemon, badge-collecting, and tournaments, but ask him about anything else and you would probably get a blank look. So he continued to throw Pokeballs at anything that moved, while she herself watched from the sidelines, secretly fuming with frustration.

Ash had no understanding of the word 'gentleman'. He could be selfish and even hurtful occasionally. It didn't occur to him that other people had feelings too: deep, complex feelings that didn't simply dwell in the small sphere of Pokemon. Misty was one of those people.

She continued to perpetually follow Ash around, citing payback for his destruction of her bicycle. Needless to say, after a while she had gotten so used to walking everywhere that a new bike didn't seem that important anymore. There were other reasons. But Ash had no clue.

Ash was still young, and that reason could forgive him of some of his faults. Not all of them, though. Misty waited and waited, dropping the occasional hint, all of which led to nothing. The boy just didn't get it. Misty continued her pursuit of his heart regardless. Despite it all, she still wanted his affection, even if it was in vain. Misty didn't like to think about it that way. She still had hope. Maybe that made her exactly as foolish as he was.
