Dingbat is a cool word...
I love the word "dingbat". I don't hear it often, or really use it myself too much. Someone at work uses it sometimes, I think Janis, and I love, possibly because whenever I hear the word used it's spot on. Plus it's a way of saying "stupid" or "ditzy" that's not overused, which is pretty rare, it seems.
In one of my classes we watched Network. At times his hilarious because it's totally ridiculous and other times it's scary because it isn't too far off. "There is no America; there is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today." <---We may not be there yet, but lets face it, corporations have so much influence on government and media, and consequently our minds, that there is at least some truth to that.
"You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here, you're beginning to believe that the tube is reality and your own lives are unreal. You do. Why, whatever the tube tells you: you dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you even think like the tube. This is mass madness, you maniacs. In God's name, you people are the real thing, WE are the illusion."<--This doesn't apply to everyone, but it certainly has a lot of truth to it, hell, if the parts about modeling ourselves after "the tube" didn't, then product placement wouldn't exist.
So I came up with a fun little meme. I'll list a good movie for every letter from A-Z. Since my entries are always so long, and probably a lot of people don't care, I'll lj cut it.
