Sick days and cat fights...

Took a sick day today. I've been trying to get through this illness for two weeks now, but I just can't seem to beat it. Yesterday I was coughing my head off during the library staff retreat, so I thought maybe I should take a 3-day weekend to relax and try to finally get rid of whatever it is that has taken hold in my lungs. So far today it seems like the coughing has lessened, though I'm still struggling with the intense headache I woke up with due to all the coughing I did last night. I'm still a little shaky, still a little weak, but I think the extra sleep this morning actually helped.

I hate taking sick days, but I think the last straw came last night when Nova stupidly ran out the door of the second floor bedrooms while I was trying to get in and promptly encountered Jack. A vicious little fight ensued, and rapidly escalated when Aurora joined the fray. All I could do was stand at the end of the hall and shout at them as fur flew through the air. I finally managed to scare Jack and Aurora away, but Nova wouldn't have anything to do with me. Rather than going back into her rooms, she ran up to the safety of the 3rd floor bedroom while Doug and I tried to round up Jack and Aurora to check for injuries. All three cats were fine, thankfully. Aurora was a bit shaken up and Jack, as you can imagine the little shit being, was perfectly fine. Nova, who was the focus of the attacking, was of course the worst off of the three, but no major injuries. She was mainly upset and missing a few patches of fur. I left her to calm down on the 3rd floor while Doug locked Aurora and Jack in the dining room for the night in punishment. I cleaned up the furry tumbleweeds and puddles of cat spit in the hallway. Nova spent the night with us and seems fine this morning. All is well again. I knew when I took Nova from my dad she would likely never get along with Aurora and Jack, but I had hoped eventually everything would work out. I'm still waiting for that to happen. In the meantime, I just have to deal with this whole annoying arrangement of keeping Nova separated from Jack and Aurora all the time. Making sure all three cats get enough attention is a major chore, and we constantly have to be on guard whenever we enter or leave the second floor bedrooms for fear of incidences like this occurring, but I guess it is what it is. Ugh. Cats are such a pain in the butt.
