Well here's a little rundown of whats been going on in the world of the Komets season. Komets started weak. The defense was aweful and the offense had trouble putting the puck in the net. Komets turned around a losing season (started 2-8) and brought the wins percentage to about a .500. This was done by preforming one of the biggest merry go rounds of trades I have ever seen in a hockey team. Finally something seemed to click. Then the Komets were dealt another wild card and the top scorer of the team left to go play in Norway. On top of things, he wasn't a veteran and since the Komets are at the maximum number of veterans, it would be difficult to replace that kind of player especially this late in the season. Recently the Komets have shut out the past three teams they have played (scores 6-0, 4-0, 3-0). Watching the last game played, I can tell you that both deffensively and offensively the Komets have improved drastically. The defense is where a hockey team of this level needs to be. The offense is better, but still is missing one or two players to really bang in the goals. I suspect that a top defenseman will be traded in order for the Komets to pick up a shooter. I guess time will tell.
A little side note...Komets' goalie Kevin St. Pierre recently broke the UHL record for a goalie with the most shut outs and today broke the Komets franchise record for most shut outs. St. Pierre has really been phenominally this year which was a big suprise to me. He seemed to really be taking a turn for the worst last season. Presonally I kind of thought he would be on a downhill trend for the rest of his days. It has not been so. St. Pierre has played (of what I've seen) the best goal tending of his career with the Komets this season. If he keeps this up for the rest of the season, I'd say he'd be up for MVP.
