April's Entry

It's almost Tax Day, which means that I'm actually trying to work on my taxes a whole 5 days in advance (can't call me a procrastinator). I used to get annoyed by taxes just because of the time it took, but then I'd fill out my cute little EZ form and wait for my refund to show up. 2003's taxes brought forth my first banking interest form since I've become an adult. It's only a couple of dollars and it was fun to include the interest. Last year I had to include getting married, which makes me ineligible to use my favorite form and also pretty much requires me to file jointly and do someone else's taxes for them. This I have found to be the biggest reason ever not to get married. This year, I apparently joined a secret partnership which I wasn't privy to which has given me a whole new slew of forms which I don't understand and which I don't even know how to use. H&R Block software isn't being very helpful either, probably because it first needs me to tell it what the hell this is all about. You would think that this would all mean I actually have money and am not constantly afraid of the inevitable day when I have to move back home because I can't afford rent or bills, but no, all I'll have to show for it at the end is a letter from the IRS saying any refund I got is being used to pay someone else's debts.

What is so special about Good Friday that businesses close and I actually get a vacation day for it? I must have missed the memo stating that an overtly religious holiday (I don't include Christmas and Easter because they have secular aspects. Are there others?) should be celebrated by all. I want my chocolate covered Jesus on the cross.
