Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
In the tradition of Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonists, Yusei is pretty tiny, at least compared to the rest of the male cast. In fact, I think the only guy in 5Ds who's smaller than him (and full grown) is Crow. I'd say he's probably about 5'6" or so.
In addition, he's pretty freakin' skinny. You can't live in a junkyard for most of your life and be a fatty, man. I imagine he only weighs about 115 or so, but since he lives in Neo Domino now, he's probably put on at least a few pounds.
He's not a stick, though. He's got quite a bit of muscle on him. He's a mechanic, of course he's muscley. But overall, I'd have to say he's a bit underweight.
2. How old is he?
Yusei is eighteen years old at the point in canon he's taken from. Even if he doesn't look like it.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Yusei has good posture for the most part, when he's just standing around or whatever. When he's working on the computer or a machine, however, he'll slump over it in concentration with his face about five inches away.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
As was said earlier, Yusei has quite a bit of muscle on him from working on machines and D-Wheels and whatnot. He's totally in shape, seeing as he runs around after the baddies all the time, kickin' butt and taking names.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He's pretty in the middle in terms of movement. I really don't think it leans toward one way or another. He has his clumsy moments, but he can certainly keep it together too.
I imagine he's tense a lot of the time, too. Saving the world and worrying about his friends and trying to keep up with all this shit, man, It takes a toll eventually.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Yusei is adorable, cute, and hot. Take your pick, I got more. He'd never see it himself, though. He thinks he's quite plain looking, actually. Which is a LIE, because there are several people who fawn over him over the course of the series.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Yusei has the typical asian anime character clear complexion. He's also a bit tan from being out in the sun so much.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Yusei has thick black hair with gold highlights that's styled so it looks like a crab. Hence why his fan nickname is Crabhead. And believe it or not, it's inherited.
9. What color are his eyes?
Yusei has deep, dark blue eyes. And they're really pretty. <3
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
He has a criminal marker on his face from when he snuck into the city to see Jack get his Stardust Dragon back. To be quite honest, it doesn't take away from his features at all. In my opinion, it makes him cuter. <3
There's also a nice big scar on his abdomen from that one duel with Kiryu where he fell off his D-Wheel and got STABBED WITH A PIECE OF SOMETHING.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
I imagine probably his shoulders and back, from always working on stuff and lifting stuff.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He dresses like a badass, which is appropriate. It's a motorcycle outfit, I guess you'd call it. Leather and jeans, man.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
YES. They fit him very well, almost as if they were made for him, which is very odd considering he lived in the slums up until a few months ago.
And I should hope he's comfortable in them, he wears the same damn thing all the time.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
HE WEARS THE SAME THING FOR EVERYHING EVER.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers, as seen in episode 7. <3
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Pretty average Japanese guy voice. Leaning towards deep, I suppose.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Yusei is generally very soft-spoken, thinking it through before he speaks at all. He's also pretty polite. The only time he ever really goes above that is when he's dueling. And I imagine then it's only because being a Large Ham is required to play card games on motorcycles.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Not really, no.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Well he's Japanese, so I should hope he speaks Japanese quite well.
He speaks English as well, but he's not very good. Most of his English, he learned from mechanics manuals and whatnot. He can hold up a conversation pretty well, but he doesn't really know big words. He's getting better, but you can definately tell it's a second language.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
He speaks Japanese most of the time, but if he were speaking to someone who spoke English and not Japanese, he'd try to use his poor English to communicate.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He can speak off the top of his head if he needs too, but he'd much rather think about it first if he has the option.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Yusei is very good with his speech and probably knows a lot of big words. Growing up in the Satellite, however, means that most of the time he talks like every other teenager there.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Yusei is the smartest person on the entire show, I swear to god. He's extremely intelligent, especially on subjects like mechanics and physics. He's both book-smart and street-smart.
However, he's pretty clueless on some subjects, this being anything to do with social interaction. He's got really no idea how to act around others, just being generally polite to everyone he knows. Also, he knows nothing on the subject of sex. At all.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Being a duelist, thinking on your feet is a must. He can deliberate many possible actions to take and their potential outcomes in only a few seconds. If given the choice, however, he'd much rather think it through thoroughly.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Yusei is very logical, but that doesn't mean he can't be intuitive. He always takes the course of action that would be best for everyone, even if it's not what's best for himself.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Formally? None whatsoever. He's never been to school, any anything he knows, he's either learned himself or he was taught by someone else. Martha taught him basic things as a child, reading and writing and such, but that's the extent of his education.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
MECHANICS. That's like his favorite thing ever.
He'd probably also feel that he could always learn more about dueling, because you can never know enough about Duel Monsters.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Yusei is very much an introvert, keeping to himself and not saying much unless it's required of him. He'll open up a little around close friends, but for the most part he's very quiet.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Yusei has a grand total of about four expressions outwardly; vaguely happy, confused, empathy, and concentration. He doesn't really go beyond that, except in certain situations.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He'll be very friendly, but quiet. He has no reason to distrust others initialy unless they give him a reason to be. Situations, he'll take them in stride.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
It really depends on the situation. If it calls for him to act, he'll act, and the same with reactions.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Probably flight, only because he'd really rather avoid confrontation if he could avoid it. Don't get it wrong, he'll kick your ass if he has to, but he doesn't fight for the sake of fighting.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
It's sort of a sarcastic sense of humor, but he won't make such jokes to be mean.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Unless being shy is a mental disorder, then no.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Zero Reverse, most definately. That's the entire reason his life is as it is, right there.
Learning to play Duel Monsters is also a big one.
The whole Team Satisfaction fiasco.
And Jack leaving.
14. What does he fear?
He's terrified of being completely alone. If any of his friends left him, he'd be completely heartbroken.
Also he had mild insectophobia.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
TO BE THE BEST MECHANIC EVAR.
But seriously, at this point in canon, his big hope is to enter the WRGP with his friends. That's really why he does anything, is for his friends.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Uhhh... He doesn't really have any big secrets. I guess that he feels incredibly guilty about Zero Reverse, even though it wasn't his fault in the slightest.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Uh, well, his parents are dead, so, uh, nonexistant.
Although sometimes Fudo Papa shows up to Yusei in visions to help him out and stuff.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Yusei is an only child.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
HE HAS NO LIVING FAMILY. AT ALL. EVER.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Well first off there's his foster mommy, Martha. She runs the orphanage in the Satellite and she's raised a hell of a lot of children, but she loves each and every one of them.
And then there's Jack and Crow, who are his adopted brothers. They were raised together and they've been though a lot together. They're probably closer than most biological brothers.
Any of his other really close friends he'd probably consider as family too, such as Aki and the Twins and probably more people.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Jack. They've known each other for friggin ever, and even though Jack is kind of a douche sometimes (okay a lot of the time), they're still as close as ever.
6. Does he have other close friends?
EVERYONE ELSE IN THE SHOW. NO JOKE.
Particularly, Crow, Aki, the Twins, and Kiryu.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
I swear to god, he makes friends with everyone he meets who's not evil within five to ten minutes of meeting them.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
He would never, ever be able to choose if you asked him that. He considers them equaly as important.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He is currently single and doesn't care because he has Jack.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. Although it's technically not canon because this is a kids show, they're never gonna put relationships in a show aimed at preteen/teenage boys.
It's got quite a bit of hinting though.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Jack. And Jack again.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Uhhhh... he doesn't. He doesn't fall in love because of one specific quality.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
He is currently childless, seeing as he's eighteen. And he doesn't plan on having any in the near future.
I imagine, though, in like twenty years, when he's ready to settle down, he might consider adopting a child.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Jack. Again. They're rivals as well as besties.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
I'm gonna go with bisexual. He doesn't really seem to have interest in most people in the first place, save a select few, and it seems to me that he wouldn't care about what gender the person he fell for was.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Yusei... has no idea. He may be a genius in some areas, but in the area of sex, he is really quite slow. Even if/when he learns stuff, it still probably wouldn't be on top of his importance list.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Turn ons, probably something to do with tools or something. Idk.
Turn offs, anything non-consentual or gross.
Weird bedroom habits? Uhhh... he's actually kinda loud, as compared to his usual quietness. I guess that's it.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
In the Western Zodiac, Yusei is a Leo. He fits the good traits quite well, but the bad traits are really nothing like him. How odd.
In the Chinese Zodiac, Yusei fits the best with the Rabbit personality.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
He's not religious at all, but that's not to say he's not open to the possibility of some sort of higher power. Being chosen by the Crimson Dragon, he certainly knows that there's some sort of magic or something in the world.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Yes. He always puts others first, even if it compromises his own safety. He also believes that there is always good in everyone.
I imagine it's stuff he got from Martha. He probably wouldn't give up something that's played such a big part in his life without some huge lifechanging event.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's open to other's opinions, and he won't judge someone else based on their beliefs. Hell, he might even be curious to learn about a different point of view.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Uhh... Evil people, I guess? Idk.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Yusei is poor as shit, but he somehow manages to make it work.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Technically, he was born in the Tops section of Neo Domino, but he grew up in the Satellite, believing that's where he was from. So, like all Satellites, we was treated like the scum of the earth, like he was worthless trash.
Luckily, recent canon events have fixed the corrupt caste system, so he's treated a lot better than he once was. Yusei doesn't really change because of it, although he's noticably happier in later seasons.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Yusei lives in a garage with a tiny apartment over it with Crow and Jack. It's nice enough, but it's really nothing special. They got a discount on the rent because the landlord is an old friend of Martha's. Both Yusei and Crow run their businesses out of the garage.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Parts for the D-Wheels. AND THAT'S IT EVER. He's surprisingly stingy with their money, because he wants to have enough money in case something were to happen.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He is the best mechanic EVAR. He runs his own business, and what he makes for it isn't that bad. And he absolutely loves it.
He also enters dueling tournies, but he doesn't do that for the money, just for fun. The money's just a bonus.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Well, he's the protagonist in a show about children's card games, so I'm gonna go with the card game as his favorite interest. He also likes tools, mechanics, physics, and computers. And motorcycles, can't forget about that.
Free time? Again, card games. Also he likes hanging out with his friends.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He eats when he's hungry, and that's about it. Which is probably bad for him, because he's only hungry like every other day. Most of the time, people (namely Jack) have to drag him away from his work to eat and sleep.
The only thing he really avoids is alcohol.
Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:

3. Time of day? Sunset.
4. Season? Winter.
5. Book? Some really thick physics book.
6. Music? Rock.
7. Place? A garage.
8. Substance? Uhhh... Water?
9. Plant? Daisies. Simple, but pretty.
10. Animal? PUPPYS. Or crabs.
