"Well we shall live in peace, we shall live in peace
We shall live in peace someday
Darlin' here in my heart, yeah I do believe
We shall live in peace someday
Well we are not afraid, we are not afraid
We shall overcome someday
Yeah here in my heart, I do believe
We shall overcome someday"
There's a sense of hope and pride that I felt last night, when Obama was elected. Hope being, that the world can change. And although some change is slow, and may take many years, I think that last night really signified, that people DO want change. Personally, I think Obama is a start to that.
My pride comes from America actually getting off their pedestal and saying "yes, we want change and yes we CAN!!!" And that truly makes anyone proud of their country, and its people.
And from the things that have happened the last few years, I admit I haven't been particularly "Proud of America". Ashamed is more like it.
But last night, really made me rethink some things.
And to clarify. It's not that Obama's black, he could have been Hispanic, Asian, Gay, Female, etc. It's that the President is anything BUT a White Wealthy Heterosexual Male. And when America said they wanted "Change", I just don't see how that includes McCain, as he fits the same Cast of our previous Presidents. So to me, McCain isnt "change", it's just another typical "face".
To conclude. I'm excited to see how the next 4 years play out. And I'm even more excited to see WHO graces the 2012 election:)
