some of my friends will find this interesting...

and another thing: call me a conspiracy theorist, but I do not think that the companies who make SSRIs are particularly interested in helping people with depression; rather they create a drug that binds to receptors temporarily increasing your brains sensitivity to natural serotonin (giving clinically promising results). Eventually your system sees that something is out of whack and compensates by reducing serotonin production, causing your depression to relapse and to increase your dose. Then, if you try to go off the drug, your brain's natural production is now so low that you are prone to a huge relapse.

The drive behind this of course is to get people to depend on these drugs and stay on them for the better part of their adult lives--in other words, big profits for the shareholders. While brain chemistry may factor into human depression, in many cases it is not the only or even main cause. Lifestyle change and therapy often work much better than handing out prescriptions.

So if you are depressed, by all means get help in sorting out the contents of your mind...just stay the hell away from the SSRI's.
