I've never been an us vs. them gay. I've cracked jokes about breeders, but never entirely had that separation between orientations. Yes, I have always felt that there were a few fundamental differences that went beyond who we sleep with, but it wasn't ever a hostile thing. That's beginning to change. I'm not saying that I'm going to start straight bashing or hating all heterosexuals. I am, however, growing increasingly more sick and tired of the separatism we get from them. I know so many straight people that will proclaim how great they are with the gay thing and how it's no different to them, but when it comes down to it...it is. I'm sorry, but I've had far too many straight people that when it came down to it, even on an unconscious level did view it as different.
I get so sick of us being treated like draft animals just because we aren't married to someone with different genitals or we don't have offspring. We're expected to pick up the slack or work when no one else wants to because they all need the day off because "they have family". I've experienced this myself and I see it with others. Everyone else is given first dibs on days off, especially holidays so they can spend them with their family. Apparently our spouses, partners, boyfriend, girlfriends, etc don't really count. MJ has an amazing boss. I love her to death, but he is constantly being told he can't have days off because everyone has already requested them. First, as a former boss, I rotated my employees days off. It's bullshit to make someone work every one of them because other employees are greedy and request every one of them off months in advance. The excuse that they want to spend them with their families or their kids is not going too far with me these days. So do I. I want to spend time with my family...just because it's a man and dogs instead of children doesn't make it any less my family.
I guess that I'll give up wanting "special rights" when everyone but us is getting them...
