In December last year, Sid and I picked out a lounge from Furniture One.
It was beautiful. It was comfortable. It wasn’t picked off the footpath during hard rubbish week.
Most importantly of all, the lounge was a shining beacon of maturity. A sign that britard was finally growing up and despite Sid’s lack of enthusiasm, I was determined that this lounge was going to be ours.
Down went the deposit and a couple of small payments. Other costs came into our lives and day by day, that shining beacon of maturity was forgotten about while Sid and I painted Transformers pictures and hung Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles masks on the wall.
I have these manic episodes now and then where I go into a panic because I realise how much further I have to go in order to become this Grown Up Person. It seems so far out of reach sometimes. I need to get my full licence, I need to buy a car, I need to own a house. I suppose I lack patience. It’s similar to my writing and to all the little projects I come up with in my head, and put down in lists.
Once it gets past the “list” part and into the “doing” part, I have a meltdown and watch TV.
Well, I’ve finally moved past the “list” part and even completed the “doing” part on my shining beacon of maturity.
Our beautiful new lounge with ottoman and matching cushions, in a modern, grown up style was completely paid up today and will be delivered on Friday afternoon.
Now I just need to get past that really strong urge to put a custom-made dinosaur-shaped-gaming-bed in the spare room. A new pair of glasses I can actually see through is probably more important, though far less fun.
Do they make dinosaur-themed glasses that anyone is aware of?
