two things:

1) I am really happy with my diet/exercise thing and the results I'm getting from it. 10+ lbs in 30 days? YESPLZ. it's hard going to the gym every day, but not as hard as I thought it'd be, and the eating part is like second nature to me now. YAY FOR HEALTH AND STUFF.

2) uh, how the fuck am I supposed to go 9 more months without Naomi ( Read more... )

Have you played with Pandora yet? Good way to find new music, and probably a decent time-killer, what with all the drinking you're not doing now.

I use last.fm now and then, but I haven't really messed with pandora since it was in its infancy, at which point it was pretty unimpressive. maybe I'll give it another try.

I've recently re-picked up Pandora. It's fun obsessively grooming a station to fit what I want it to, even if that hardly ever works out. My black metal station is coming along, actually, but other than that, I can't quite get it right. So if I ever get a less extreme station working, or you develop a taste for the loud and satanic stuff, I'll send you my ID.

I donno; the thing I worry about with any audio scrobbler is that my tastes are really just too random to be predictive of other tastes. I've never discovered anything terribly worthwhile based on some algorithm's calculation of what I'd like based on liking something else.

anyway, I don't have anything against loud and satanic stuff, provided there's musical value and it's not thrash. ultra-speed and metal don't generally mix well for me... in fact I'm finding that I quite like post-metal (see Isis) these days. I do, however, wish I could find some stuff that's musically like Dethklok, without the silliness.

One of the reasons I don't have stations that work well right is that I hardly ever listen to the same one two days in a row. That said, I like Pandora's system, because you can make songs go away if they don't fit ( ... )

Panopticon is brilliant. beautiful fucking music. just found it like a month ago, actually; someone in some review compared them to Explosions in the Sky, which is also brilliant and beautiful (but not as metal-influenced), and that was enough convincing for me. also, I bought 100 songs from eMusic for $30, which has made me quite musically adventurous lately. :D

It's good driving music, I think. It's aggressive enough to keep you alert and active, but mellow enough to not make you want to run into people.

If I'd ever remembered to bring it up, you'd have possibly heard them a couple years ago. Of course, if I had made it to see Tool on their last tour (kicks self,) I would have heard them well before that.
