Dan saw Alice as a pretty thing in a moment of vulnerability and chose that moment to pounce. She knew that, or else she would never have become "Alice" to begin with. That's clearest to me in the end. She was never going to take him to New York with her. She had planned the whole time to break up with him in the hotel room. She wanted him to hit her, so that he would be left feeling responsible.
You have to remember that Larry met Anna only because he had been tricked into thinking he was going to get sex. He didn't suddenly fall for her after hearing the whole "someone is playing a trick on both of us" explanation. He realized that here was something he wanted that he might be able to have, made even more desirable by the idea it was something that someone else wanted, but couldn't have. He's easily the cruelest of the whole group. He knew when she was cheating on him, knew she was going to confess. He saw her a little upset, and decided to rub it in. Again, look at the end. Him lying soundly asleep, her wide awake. He knew she wasn't happy the whole time, but he kept her by using guilt and intimidation. He won, on his terms.
Dan obviously did come to feel something, or else he wouldn't have been grieving afterward. Anna, yeah, pretty much comes off rather flat, but she wasn't exactly portrayed by the greatest character actor ever.
