When Lelani's pay was going entirely into the household, I wasn't working and it was a major struggle to keep people from harassing us. We were even making nothing more than token payments on rent. Now I am working, my income barely covers household costs as well as all our arrears on gas, electric, rent, water and my existing debts which built up during my 2 month unemployment. What that means is that for every £1 spent above & beyond what SHOULD be going to rent, electric, gas, water, I have to delay or reduce a payment somewhere and tell my creditors or others that things will be brought back in line with my(/our) contractual obligations. Know Exactly what you're talking about here, while I could afford it I paid all of the bills and brought the food, yes I was also being helped by having a lodger, but as my own money that was, has all but gone, now I still get to pay the bills and buy all the food, problem is of course that my own limited income, plus the lodgers money is not enough to cover everything, I also have an extra bill these days too as I never used to have to pay council tax, but because my lodger is working I do now.
