An arg moment!
Last May when my server was hacked I ended up taking down several sites that had been sitting dormant for some time. One of those sites was my old costume commissions site. When the hacking happened it ended up being turned into a paygate of sorts for the Nigerian scam that was trying to be hosted on my server.
A couple of months passed after the hacking and I went in and canceled several domains and other extras that were on my account. I thought I had taken care of everything until this weekend when I got a renewal invoice from my host saying that they were going to charge me for both my domain and email hosting of Desu-Ka.com The only problem is that I canceled said domain MONTHS ago.
I called up my host and was told to call back on Monday which I just finished doing. Lady assures me that the packages were never canceled when I know I canceled them. She tells me that there is no way to stop them charging my account, but that they can "prorate" me a credit.... cause that does me so much good...
I now realize what I did wrong and I could thoroughly choke myself for it. When I canceled the domain I didn't cancel the separate email package that was tied to said domain. Hence, domain cancelation wasn't complete and it has been active all this time. They did nothing wrong on their end, but it was truly user error and now I could honestly just beat my head on a desk for a few hours.
So that is $20 that will now be autodeducted from my account. The only problem is that the money IN my account isn't my money right now but money that I am holding for a group order for a friend. She has been wonderful when shit came up but now I get the joys of explaining to her that I now have to replace $20 of it due to my screw up and that that silk order I was going to place will have to be pushed back until I get some orders through BR... FUCK FUCK FUCK!
I'm sorry Cat. This was truly my error. I know you won't be mad about it, but you know that I take this shit very seriously. I know that an order or two will clear it all up but dammit I'm mad at myself for not catching my mistake before it screwed me over. Its a $20 lesson thats for sure. Now if only college were that cheap I would be filthy rich AND intelligent...
EDIT: For those that are curious, yes I have officially canceled both items now. And even if I didn't, they would just sit there for another year since neither has been touched since the hacking had me clear off the entire server.
