an urgent plea
Hi everyone,
I don't know how much people have been following what is going on in Israel/Lebanon/Gaza last week, but let's just say that it is a horrible situation. America is using Israel to beat up on everyone in the region, with the Israeli army ruthlessly killing civilians, destorying infrastructure and water supplies, and it just won't stop. The lebaneese resistance group Hezbollah has continued rocket attacks against northern cities in Israel in an effort to defend itself and the Palestinian people, knowing that Israel will not stop its siege and will not stop hurting lebaneese civilians.

Because of this violence, the city in which I lived when I was in Israel, Haifa, has been hit by Hesbollah rockets at least 6 times over the last 3 days. All of my friends have had to leave their homes and go stay with relatives in "safer" locations. Even more disgustingly, the Associated Press and the Israeli press never report on Arab villages in Israel that get hit by rockets, so we do not even know how many Palestinians in Israel have been injured and their homes destoryed.
Both Waheed and Halla, my closest friends in Israel, are staying with relatives and have not been able to return to Haifa for the last few days. When they return, they will find a much different city. Things are even worse in Lebanon, which up until 1 week ago was a paradise destination for American tourists after the government rebuilt itself while recovering from a 20 year civil war. Now, the counrty is in ruins, and civilians are trapped, with Israel bombing the airport, highways, and sieging the country by sea.
Please, if there are any demonstrations in your cities, please get out to the streets and tell our government that it is unacceptable to collectively punish innocent lebaneese, Palestinian and Israeli civilians for the "crimes" of a few. Even if you just take 1/2 hour out of your day to go support these efforts, we must tell our government that supporting Israeli aggression just to further our imperialist aims in the middle east is UNACCEPTABLE!! It is not "self-defense" to murder and starve innocent people - it is a war crime!
