As a medic, Sakura easily kept her cool in tough situations that made normal people crack. It wouldn’t do for the person responsible for bringing others back from the brink of death to be panicking while mending bones and repairing flesh. However, Sakura was still human, and sometimes - and only sometimes - she would crack under the pressure of Tsunade’s stern stare or Naruto’s constant nagging or the possibility of dying at the battle at hand and blurt out something stupid.
The first time she did this was at the beginning of her apprenticeship with Tsunade when Tsunade loudly whined that she couldn’t find her hidden bottle of sake. The Hokage was really just talking to herself, but it was enough to make Sakura whimper and beg for forgiveness for having taken a sip from one of Tsunade’s bottles of rice wine because she had been curious.
At another point, after a full three days of Naruto being extra cautious about leaving their packs on the forest floor during one mission because just the other day, a bear or a raccoon or something equally crazy had gone through his pack and stolen some of his ramen. Eventually, she had gotten over the embarrassment and told him that she had gotten really hungry during her watch and made some ramen to pass the time, so no, idiot, no wild animal took your food. When he asked her about the second and third packs, she only blushed and repeated that she had been really hungry.
Sakura was normally a rather cool-headed person, but sometimes and only sometimes, her stupid mouth got the better of her and-
“I love you again. I never stopped loving you, actually. I think. I don’t know. I don’t know anything. Or well, I know that I love you. I just… I love you.”
Oh, god.
Sakura cringed and immediately slapped her hands over her mouth, wondering what the hell prompted her to say all of that. It might’ve had to do with the fact this particular spar was oddly tenser than others and contained Sasuke trying to pin her down with the entirety of his body more times than he usually did. Or maybe it was the way his eyes had lost their usual hardened glare over the past few years he’d spent back in Konoha. Or maybe it was his smile. Yes. It was definitely his smile. And speaking of that smile, why was he smiling right then-
“Okay.”
Sakura frowned in confusion. Okay? Did he just say “okay” when she blurted out all of the annoying feelings that had been tumbling around between her heart and her brain and just about everywhere inside of her. She readied herself to tell him off for his utterly anticlimactic and confusing answer, but just as she was about to remind him that he was a complete jerk, he pressed his lips against hers. His mouth moved gently and unsurely and his hands lingered on her skin, barely even touching her. She went with it, expecting that given this was Sasuke, there would be some roughness here or there, but found none, and before she could bring it out of him, he pulled away.
His fingers were still on her upper arms holding her in place but his eyes were trained on her face.
“I. Um.” He cleared his throat awkwardly and Sakura could see the red creeping up his neck and onto his face. “Yeah… You.”
She could only laugh. “Okay,” she whispered, knowing she was probably the only in the world person that would understand that makeshift sentence.
Oh my goodness!!! This...this is beautiful! You have an awkward blurting-her-feelings-out Sakura, smiling Sasuke, A KISS, and Sasuke blushing all in one!? I wish I could be coherent right now, but I have been reduced to a grinning, giddy idiot, so...dsfnkjaherk.
