Rain, rain, go away...
As a child, you heard this tune whispered under breathe as grey, taunting clouds climb into the sky with promises of bitter, murky water, spoiling your fun when in the sandbox or on the jungle gym.
Naruto, however, would sit by the window with his apple juice and graham crackers given to him by his teacher and watch as the sky broke open, releasing tears of all emotion. If the air was cold and the rain biting as it hit the ground, Mother Nature was distressed. If the air was warm, the sun playing hide-n-seek with the clouds, and the rain light as it glided towards land, Mother Nature was content. If the air was vicious, the wind howling itself hoarse and the rain pummeling the ground, Mother Nature was livid.
And when it was over, Naruto would go back to his pictures, little doodles that were shaped like frogs, and his classmates with their mocking smiles.
Mother Nature always seemed to cry a gentle drizzle of concern whenever he walked home...
---
When Naruto was in his sophomore year of high school, an exchange student moved to Konoha from Japan. Walking in the hallways, he heard the whispers of rabid, hormonal girls chirping about how "hot and mysterious" he was before becoming possessive over their (non-existent) relationship.
Naruto didn’t care, precisely, but his classmates weren’t really trying to be quiet about it. He hadn't even seen the guy yet-
BAM! "Ow!"
The blond hated irony, really, he did.
---
Naruto still watches the rain, only now, because of life, he sits in Sasuke’s arms, apple juice is now hot chocolate and graham crackers are strawberry Danishes with drizzled icing.
And Naruto still hears the whispered tune; sung by children who wish for the sun. The difference? Now, he sees two little boys, who seem completely opposite, watch the tears of an emotional Mother Nature before going back to their games.
Come again some other day.
