a day, but a day, a very good day

Zach was getting use to Risa, fast. No one knew who he was here, except the people he met on the Enterprise. No reporters trying to bother him, no paparazzi following him around trying to get a picture, no fans coming up and asking for pictures or autographs. It was a really, honest, vacation, and in the scope of things he couldn't have been more ( Read more... )

Zach let himself drift back into sleep as well, Chris' arms comfortable around him. It was a simple time where neither of them had to worry about anything at all, and thus, didn't.

Maybe half an hour later, Zach woke up again, but chose deliberately not to move. He could spend a little time resting like this, with Chris warm and relaxed against him.

It was some time later when Chris stirred, having fallen into a surprisingly deep sleep. The fresh, clean air here had lured him into spending most of each day doing something outdoors, with the result that he was generally fast asleep within minutes of crawling into bed and slept deeply until morning. He hadn't meant to do that just now, though.

His arms tightened around Zach as he nuzzled his ear. "Hi."

"Hey," Zach whispered quietly, running the flat of his palm along Chris' closest arm. "Sleep good?" He stretched a little with his words, his body telling him just how comfortable it was to do this.

"Mmmm, yeah," Chris replied. "Didn't mean to." Still a little fuzzy from his unexpected nap, he just lay still and enjoyed the quiet moment, Zach's hand sending shivers up his arm.

He rumbled low in his chest when Zach stretched, rubbing against the length of him and making Chris snuggle closer against his back. This was something that he would take as a luxury back home, the chance to just have a quiet morning like this with nowhere to go, nothing to say they couldn't just stay right here. He smiled against the warm skin of Zach's neck, leaving a trail of soft kisses wherever he could reach without moving too much. He didn't want to disturb the peaceful, quiet warmth that surrounded them.

"Not like we have any pressing place to go," Zach murmured, a yawn splitting his jaw. He leaned back into Chris, then turned just enough that he could touch their lips together. "I like having you here, like this." It was still something they were getting use to, having each other like this. Zach tried not to think of what would happen in the future, when all was said and done and they chose to return home to their old lives.

"Nope," Chris agreed just before their lips met. The angle was a little awkward but the kiss was soft, just the lightest of touches with the slight rasp of stubble when their cheeks rubbed together. "I like being here with you," he told Zach. He hoped they would be able to carve out time for themselves, for this, when they went home.

Lying still with no other sound but the rustle of the covers or the soft, regular sound of their breathing, Chris found it more and more difficult to justify moving from this spot. Not when being here, having Zach warm and sleepy curled up against him felt so incredibly good.

His hand came up, the flat of his thumb rubbing along Chris' jawline. They both needed a shave, though Zach was rarely without needing one anyway, and a shower might be nice, but the bathroom seemed very far away. Instead, remaining here and comfortable was a much better plan.

"Does that mean we can just stay here for today?" Zach murmured, smiling sleepily. How they could manage this when the media had its eyes on them constantly, when their managers would have a fit?

Chris leaned into that touch, his eyes drifting shut again as he rubbed against Zach's hand. He was fast becoming in favor of staying right there all day, never mind the gorgeous weather outside. The sleepy smile that greeted him when his eyes opened again did nothing to persuade him otherwise, instead prompting him to lean in for another slow, soft kiss.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, though, he was reminded of his original plan. His voice was hushed when they broke apart again, still not ready to disturb the quiet but curious and just a little nervous, which was silly when he thought about it. But somehow in taking things slow, they'd still not gotten around to this elementary step. "Want to go out later?"

"Depends, what time is later?" Zach reached over and tugged Chris a little until he got the idea to move so he was on top of Zach's body. A long fingered hand cupped the back of Chris' skull topped with a sleepy smile.

Hopefully later was much later, because the idea of moving from this pocket of warm seemed like some sort of crime. It was several lazy Saturday mornings rolled into one. There would be nothing like this when they got back to Earth, in 2010, or it would be much more complicated.

"You realize it'll be 2011 soon, back where we are? Twenty-two..." Zach drifted off, trying to remember when the movie happened, information he learned since coming aboard as well, "...sixty, I think, here?"

"I don't know, maybe this afternoon?" Chris took the hint, shifting over until he had covered Zach's body with his own, sighing as that hand cradled the back of his head. "Need my hair cut," he mumbled as those long fingers stroked through the disheveled strands, long enough now that there was a hint of curl at the ends.

Staying right here was rapidly becoming more and more attractive an option, though, his eyelids growing heavy as they talked quietly, occasionally punctuating a sentence with a kiss. He could get used to this, Chris thought sleepily, nosing against Zach's jaw.

"Sounds right," Chris replied. "Should be a pretty wild party, New Years' Eve. You think it's as big a deal here?"

"I kind of like it longer," Zach said, teasing some of those curling ends until they stood up straighter. "They probably have something like a more advanced version of that vacuum that cuts your hair now. Ever see that infomercial?" The idea of Chris sitting down with one of those machines, only silver and more high-tech, made him chuckle.

"If it's like anything else we've seen, it will still be a big deal." Maybe they could ask someone next time they spotted someone they knew. "We have that invitation to go over to Kirk and McCoy's soon, we could ask then."

"You say that now," Chris retorted, amused and just a little pleased, enjoying the feel of Zach's fingers in his hair. "Just wait, it goes nuts when it gets too long. Not like yours, looking good whatever you do to it."

"This place seems to like any excuse to party, so I can't imagine it would be an exception." Chris stifled a yawn, shifting and pulling the covers up a little more. "I bet they'd know," he agreed. "Maybe we can plan something, all together."

"Hair products," Zach said with sure knowledge. "I shall teach you the science of gel, Christopher." He nodded, like a wise professor, then lost it in a laugh.

"All together, I'd like that. Just too bad Zoe, Simon, and everyone else can't be here with us." Zach missed bantering with Simon on twitter and getting teasing phone calls from Zoe.

"Oh, you will?" Chris chuckled as Zach lost it, shaking the both of them with laughter. He loved seeing him this relaxed, that broad smile that lit up his entire face.

"Can you imagine Simon here? He'd be into everything." Chris grinned, just imagining their other friends' reactions to being on the Enterprise, meeting their counterparts... which reminded him.

"Did you ever talk to Spock? After you stormed back in that morning, I mean." Chris had only rarely seen Zach that upset, so he knew that whatever had happened, it hadn't been good.

"No, I haven't." Zach managed to look somewhat upset. "After what happened with Nyota, he threatened me, and I really haven't seen a reason to bother him since. Maybe this is revenge for Leonard and I getting along so well," Zach joked, but it was flat.

"What did happen with Nyota?" Chris asked, curious. "I'm guessing you woke up together, like Karl and me." Zach's next words had him leaning up on one elbow. "Wait a minute. He actually threatened you?"

Chris frowned, one hand sliding up to curve against the side of Zach's face, his thumb rubbing over his cheekbone. He hated the idea that they had argued, never mind the fact that the idea of anyone threatening Zach made him see red.
