Everything deserves a chance, no matter how stupid you think it or he/she is. Chances are, if you come at it openly and without a doubt against it (maybe even for it) you'll come out of it with something you couldn't have gotten without it. Today was one of those days.
So first off, I got accepted into the National Honor Society and got another Academic Letter... Yay me.
For NHS, they take out all of the new inductees with the current members and take them to lunch and play games afterwords. I admit that when I was told that, I had no desire to go. I would've rather gone to my DMACC class that I always complain about then play games and have a completely fun day at high school. I went along with it and just thought that at least it's free food and I don't have to go to class after 3rd period.
So we all get our flower for being accepted.. Corny plastic flowers.. Yet still flowers. This was after I realized I was chosen and my mom wasn't just saying/thinking that. No one came and got me and another new person out of Senior Lit so we didn't know if we were chosen or not. So we get down to the room and have pictures and they tell us what we were going to do.. I decided that I was going to make the most of it and act myself, which I usually don't do around people from my high school.
So we get to Spaghetti Works and realize we have 15 minutes before they'll allow us in. So 8 people pack themselves into a SUV to stay out of the cold while we wait. When we eventually get inside we sit in the bar area and just kinda talk in little groups while they get the party room ready. I stayed with people I knew better than others and didn't really talk/do all that much. When we got into the party room, every packed the table I wanted to be a part of (with all the people I knew best) and I got "stuck" with a group I normally wouldn't associate myself with. Nothing against them but I just don't normally put myself with them. So we sit down and I join the sophomore side of the table instead of the senior and it was awesomely fun. Normally I wouldn't try talking to these girls but it was funny when it started. I caught up on alllll the gossip I've missed in my 3 years of high school and I didn't feel stupid or awkward around them. We all had a great time and I got Alyssa to laugh right before she was about to swallow the drink so she had to spit it out so it wouldn't come out of her nose or get sprayed everywhere. It was hilarious and it'll be something I won't forget.
We get back to school and this is the part I wasn't looking forward to at all. The games. It was the type of game where you get to know each other and break the awkwardness that you might feel in accomplishing the goal. The first game we all had toothpicks in our mouths and we had to get a lifesaver from one end to the other without using our hands, just the toothpick. It was so funny to see everyone to get close enough to grab the toothpick and then try and find a way to get it to slide down to the other person. My team won that one and I'll admit it was fun. I was paired with Whitney and I think Paige but I can't really remember.... Then the next game was the orange game where you stick the orange in your neck and you have to give it to the next person without your hands. That was hilarious.. I had Chad on one side and Paige (for sure this time) on the other. We were the start so every time the orange got dropped we had to do it. Chad and I had no problem between us doing it and me and Paige had a few problems but it was funny the first couple of times when we tried to figure out how to do it. Somehow in the struggle the orange rolled down my chest while she was still trying to get it.. Hilarious in itself. Then I guess I kinda missed the orange and got more Paige then I knew.. All in fun and games though. The balloon one wasn't so great so nothing will really stick about that other than all the balloons all over the place and how everyone took one and started making the screechy sounds with it.
After the games, we had to practice how the ceremony would go which took FOREVER. It was ok the first couple of times to get the hang of it, but it took way too long. No one had a clue what they were doing because it always switched and so we were never really sure about what was going on. I had Ryan taking me up and I got introduced as DJ Rrrr... It was awesome... Son of Ma and Pa Rrrr... ^_^.
So then came tonight and I ended up (somehow) sitting by Allie and Jessica. We kind of made fun of some things and laughed out loud too much while Jessica tried to show me pictures of girls in thongs =D. Then all three of us had an image mentally burned into our memory forever. It was..... Horrible.. Funny, but.. bleh.. Took awhile to get through that, but with them to help pass the time it wasn't too bad. After it was over they had punch and cookies in the hallway and I was kind of surprised that Alyssa came up and said hi. Nothing against them but I didn't expect them to associate themselves all too much with me or just say hi or wave in passing. But she stayed and we kinda talked.. It was fun.. I definitely think I made some new friends that I'll be able to laugh with and maybe share some more good times with.
All goes to show that given a chance, even the things you hardly look forward to can be a blast when you have the right company and don't set off trying to make it a bad time.
I'll always cherish the nights I won't remember with the friends I'll never forget.
