Reflections In A Golden Eye

Jesus Gawd. I started watching Reflections In A Golden Eye last night, a John Huston flick starring Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor (introducing Robert Forster), and based on a story by Carson Mcullers. I stopped part of the way through because I was confused and disoriented by all the cultural and temporal removes from my sensibilities. It was written in 1939, (film made in the 60's) and it's military, southern and class culture are all foriegn territory for me. But what's most fucked and the real reason I stopped watching it, is I thought it was one of my Dad's fav movies but it's a dirty little twisted sex flick! I mean that in the nicest way though, and it's not a porno, more of a drama along the lines of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. As far as I can tell it's about the gap between societal expectations and reality, focusing on the hipocracy of that era and sprinking all kinds of kinks and fetishes willy nilly all over the place. Anyhow, I remembered that it was Temple of Gold by William Goldman that my Dad was super fond of. I wonder if he ever saw Reflections In A Golden Eye. Seems like it was a controversial movie in it's day, so I bet he did.
