Back to the updates

Haven't felt like posting - adjusting to this "work" thing again. Day 2 or 3 or...it's Oct. 5, going to Nara, seeing some deer, not feeding them. Wahahaa.

Off to Nara today. Riding the bus (going south) seeing the countryside is different. Last time I was here, I either took the train or was driven by my relatives, but I didn't pay much attention to the countryside in any case.

It's weird seeing large stretch of farmland in between major cities, you don't see that in most areas of California. There aren't as many rice paddies, since rice is not a major crop in the southern part of Japan (north, yes). Rice is grown here, but it's mostly sato imo (potato) & lettuce.

It's Monday & there are tons of buses carrying schoolkids the same direction we're going. Easy to forget that the rest of the world isn't on vacation even if you are.

Speaking of that vacation thing, who the fuck wakes up at 6am on vacation? I do, I guess. Had to wake up early to pack rest of suitcase, to have it picked up & sent onto Hakone ahead of the group. But we don't go to Hakone until tomorrow. O_o

It's not hard to fit it all in my little bag, since I haven't bought much in the way of souvenirs.

The weather reminds me what swtnorcalboi once said about Florida. It gets humid, then it rains. It feels like it could rain. Kyoto is about 86% humidity when I checked the weather report before I left. The humidity is also making my hair super wavy. Do. Not. Like.

Blah. They're passing around a bag of name tags for people to wear. Since not everyone knows everyone. Which is a good idea, but I'd rather not have this huge sign - "tourist". I actually blend here. I can walk into a restaurant here & not get automatically handed the English menu. A bit annoyed when I answer the door in the hotel, & the cleaning ladies speak in Japanese to me. Ack! Can't understand all of that...crap.

We've arrived at Nara Park. The group is supposed to tour Todaiji Temple & part of the park, since I've seen all of that before, I'm going to go visit shops & take pictures.

Took a bunch of pics of the pond near Todaiji Temple. Got bit by a mosquito. Crap.

Spent half the day in Nara, returning to Kyoto, where the rest of the afternoon is free time. Sitting in the back of the bus, avoiding the Plagued One. Who is in full-blown wheezing, sneezing, & coughing. And not covering her mouth. Yay?

Tomorrow, Hakone. And more waking up early. x_x
