...but I'm still not convinced Cameron is over her crush, and it was boring to have so much of the episode revolve around her. But...
There were many, many great things in this episode pertaining to House, which get a “wow” from me, but there was too much soapy drama/dialogue amongst the others for my taste. It was written by Thomas Moran (no surprise, with all the Cameron) and Eli Attie.
The bright spots were the House/Wilson interactions:
First of all, House confiding in Wilson that he fears he’s losing his mojo because he didn’t see Kutner’s suicide coming, was wrong about Cameron’s motivations (thank the powers that be to high heaven), and didn’t come up with Taub’s idea before Taub did was wonderful. It was a moment when House allowed himself to be completely vulnerable as he only has ever been with Stacy and Wilson, but not recently. The expressions on Hugh Laurie’s face while he tells this to Wilson and then listens to Wilson tell him it’s normal and to be expected was beautifully heartbreaking.
Even more awesome was learning that Wilson was eating healthy to provide a mystery for House to solve while trying to get things “back to normal”. I wanted to hug Wilson over and over again! And I adore House calling him a manipulative b!tch, not once, but twice!!! Hee!!! Love it!!!
The Cameron thing was really tiring to watch. Dragging the audience through does-she-still-love-House had to have been painful for all. As someone who is sick to death of the crush storyline, I know it was tiring for me, regardless of what the outcome was. And I would imagine that if I were a House/Cameron fan, I would feel mercilessly teased and tortured, and not in a good way. I understand the need to have had Chase and House question her feelings, but it could have taken up much less of the episode overall. I liked the storyline with Cameron afraid that Chase was only proposing as a result of Kutner’s death, but it could have been so much shorter.
And, really, there was NO REASON for Cameron to be snippy to Cuddy when Cuddy asked her if she was in love with House, especially since we’ve seen Cameron and Cuddy friendly in other episodes this season and even hugging in this episode after Cameron and Chase presumably tell her about their engagement. Therefore, I don’t understand why Cameron responded to Cuddy’s inquiry with, “You are not concerned about me; you’re marking your territory.” If Cameron isn’t interested in House, why would she care if Cuddy is? And if we’re to believe that Cuddy and Cameron are friends, then why would Cameron be so snippy to her? (Then, of course, there’s the fact that the two women are NOT and never have been in competition, since Cuddy is House’s friend and at one point they slept together, whereas Cameron is House’s coworker and he’s never expressed romantic interest in her.)
I actually like Cameron and Chase together a lot. I think they have real chemistry, and I’m pretty sure my feelings are not a result of not wanting Cameron and House together, though readers may believe whatever they wish. :-) It began at the end of S3, when Chase and Cameron first got together, and I saw Cameron *smile*.
I loved that Chase finally called Cameron on her antics, but I hope Cameron didn’t just ask him to propose because she’s afraid of losing him.
Chase: You asked for a day, I gave you two…[..]
Cameron: If you think I’m the least bit interested in House… […]
Chase: I don’t care how it looks; I care what it is.
Cameron: I need a little more time.
Chase: No. (Yay, Chase!)
Cameron: This has nothing to do with House…
Chase: Yeah, well this has nothing to do with me, either. Not anymore. Let me know when I can come pick up my things.
I thought the end Chase/Cameron moment was really sweet and that Cameron appeared very sincere when she shared her feelings with Chase and said she hoped he’d propose. If they really get married, this could be a wonderful thing for Cameron. She can move on and have storylines that go beyond being in love with House. Yay, Cameron! (If it lasts…) I am doubtful, however, because she NEVER came out and said she DIDN’T LOVE House, and she had plenty of opportunities to do so. She either dodged the inquiries or said her decisions were not because of House. Also, House told her people don’t change…so I suppose Cameron’s “feelings”for House will come up again…hopefully not for a long time.
I didn’t find the patient of the week particularly compelling. I understand the patient wanting to save the earth and I agree with the things he’s fighting for; however, when one becomes a parent, one also has a responsibility to take care of the child specifically, rather than the earth in general.
I like the title "Saviors", though, and how it relates to the stories. Wilson was House's "savior"; the PotW was trying to be the planet's "savior". Was Cameron Chase's "savior"? Or vice versa? Other thoughts on the theme?
And, finally, House+piano+harmonica!!! Almost too much for me to handle!!! I fell in love all over again! And then Amber on the piano!!!!!!!!!!
Others' thoughts?
