1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before? Well, I've never been on TV with Henry Hudson before.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? The one that sticks out in my mind was my resolution to not wind up in physical therapy again, which doesn't seem like much to ask... but it's a resolution I managed to break twice. That's just ridiculous. So I'm pretty sure that even if I resolved for 2005 simply not to spontaneously combust, I would manage to break that resolution too. Thus... no resolutions for this year. I should lose some weight though. And by "some," I mean about 30 pounds.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No.
4. Did anyone close to you die? No.
5. What countries did you visit? Absolutely none.
6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004? Some sort of contentment with who and where I am in life.
7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Two dates, really... March 23rd, the day my athletic career ended and I became three steps closer to being The First Amazing Ligamentless Kid, and July 4th, when I sat crying on my grimy hotel balcony in North Carolina listening to "Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl" on my iPod and watching the fireworks explode over Charlotte while the guy on the balcony above me dumped beer on my head.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Being able to laugh about it all in retrospect, I suppose. It was a very comedy of errors-esque year.
9. What was your biggest failure? Summer. All of it except for GYLC and the first and last days. I really wanted to be able to like myself, and I wound up changing for the worst, I think.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? What a question to ask the girl who wrote her college essay on being accident prone!
11. What was the best thing you bought? I didn't personally, but the money my parents are paying you kids to be my friends is very much appreciated. I'll see that you all get New Year's bonuses.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Very literally, I think I'm going to hand this one off to Emma and Ellen for their covert operations. It isn't a party without those two.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? My mum's. The whole, "You-ruined-my-life, now-get-out-of-my-house" phase was pretty appalling. Don't think I could've gotten through that without Cassie.
14. Where did most of your money go? Concerts (particularly the $72 I paid for nosebleed seats at Simon & Garfunkel) and movies. Even more money will disappear now that Spectrum ticket prices have gone up. Alas.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? GYLC, summer vacation, and, yes, prom (and the mission, Kathleen!) I'm alternately psyched and anxious about New Year's Eve.
16. What song will always remind you of 2004? Tough to say at this point, as only time will tell. Probably Badly Drawn Boy's "The Shining."
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Hard to say, I fluctuate so dramatically... probably about the same. Maybe a little sadder?
ii. richer or poorer? Poorer.
iii. thinner or fatter? Fatter. My weight increases exponentially.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Being ridiculous and spontaneous and enjoying myself with my friends.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Sitting by myself and overanalyzing everything about my life.
20. How will you be spending the Holidays? Mostly spent cooped up in my quaint little log prison... and then a killer time with the most beautiful people in the world.
22. Did you fall in love in 2004? Nope, but I did really like Jesse for quite a while.
23. How many one-night stands? Zip.
24. What was your favorite TV program? The Daily Show, but I don't really watch TV.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No, I don't think so, unless my vague feelings of hating the world count?
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? The Weakerthans.
28. What did you want and get? My driver's license.
30. What was your favorite film of this year? Garden State, I ♥ Huckabees, or Big Fish.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Oh geez. I rang in the big 1-7 venturing to Aviation Mall with Jesse and a severely doped-up Luke to go see Van Helsing.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? One really good fling. Or vandalizing that goddamn sign so that it read "Pas des poissons d'alcooliques" instead of "Pas des boissons d'alcooliques."
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004? At any given time, half the stuff I'm wearing is vintage, from the 40s or 50s, and the other half is pretty modern. Sometimes it's funky, most of the time I look like a lame walrus.
34. What kept you sane? Julianna!
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Jon Stewart, Colin Mellory, & Ioan Gruffudd.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? The complete neglect of the Sudan.
37. Who did you miss? Mike, my GYLCers, Parker... and I missed everyone from home desperately all summer.
38. Who was the best new person you met? Thing 2, who is me, only living in Costa Rica. We're both silly 5'8 Emilys who were born in the same hospital in Oakland, CA.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004: You know, I don't think I learned much this year.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: "This is the story of your red right ankle, and how it came to meet your leg. And how the muscle, bone, and sinews tangled, and how the skin was softly shed. And how it whispered, 'Oh, adhere to me, for we are bound by symmetry. Whatever differences our lives have been, we together make a limb.' This is the story of your red right ankle."
