Sam teaches Cas how to play World of Warcraft
“What are you doing?” Cas asks as Sam as he’s hunched over his laptop. Sam jumps at the sound of Castiel’s voice right in his ear.
“Oh, uh,” Sam blushes as he stammers for an answer. “This was,uh, something I guess I picked up while souless. Since I didn’t sleep I had a lot of spare time. It’s a video game.”
“Your avatar is a woman,” Cas leans in closer to the screen, “And purple.”
“She’s erm,” Sam coughs, “a night elf. I couldn’t bring myself to play undead even though it’s the best rogue class due to bad associations. Really, any of the horde classes make me uncomfortable except the tauren and I’m sure as hell not playing a cow.”
“What’s the point of this game?”
“Well, it’s an MMORPG. You level up, get better gear, so you can run more instances, level, and get better gear. And when you top out you raid.” Sam shifts restlessly as Cas leans in even closer to the laptop screen to examine the chat box on Sam’s screen.
“El-Ef-Two Times Dee Pee Ess for VanCleef Heroic, Pee Ess Tee. Need See See and Ay Oh Ee plox,” Cas’ eyes furrow in confusion. “What does that even mean?”
“Uh, well, it means they are looking for two damage dealing, or DPS, classes to go to that specific dungeon, or instance. VanCleef is the end boss of the dungeon. Heroic indicates they’re running it on a higher difficulty level, and they need people who are wearing gear that is good enough for it. PST means please send tell to indicate your interest. CC means Crowd Control, so they’re looking for a DPS class that has renewable ways to control certain enemies while the group works down other enemies in a pack. AOE stands for Area of Effect, so they’re also looking for a DPS that can damage multiple enemies in a single given area. I have no idea what plox means.” Cas’ confusion turns from the screen to Sam. Sam at least has the decency to look embarrassed that he knows all of these things.
“....Do you not get enough of this in real life, Sam?”
Sam shrugs. “I find it therapeutic that I can decimate mobs on here and there’s a certain definite
sense of what I’m killing is the right thing. I like the surety of it.”
Cas is quiet for a moment before he looks Sam dead in the eye and asks, “Is there a way I can play this with you?”
