Grammar school. I recall clearly the nuns taking us from class to church for prayers, and then sending us home. Irish Catholic family - there was much crying.
2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
I was living in Oakland, and I recall the odd weather we had afterwards as the soot in the air messed things up.

San Francisco - I don't recall any details,

I was standing at the foot of the Transamerica Pyramid, having noticed a little pre-shake and thinking "Cool! A little earthquake to shock the tourists." From there I walked to my neighborhood (about six blocks) and hung out in my local bar until the police shut things down.

Watching TV. It touched me deeply.

I was asleep. Turned on the computer before work and checked the Dope to see the news. Went to work, but they sent us home pretty quick. Spent the day on the Dope and in chat.
