I want to do my senior thesis on a book that is illustrated by the author.My adviser suggested William Blake...and I like William Blake, but I do not luuvv William Blake, I am thoroughly done with Gibran...
Help!?
any one have suggestions outside the realm of graphic novels?

fun home is the best graphic novel ever...but I am really shy of graphic novels...I know I am a jerk for saying it, but the art is usually not chewy enouph for me to spend 20-25 pages on.

French Milk by Lucy Knisley! OK, that's kindof a graphic novel. And maybe too recent.

Hmm did Whitman do any illustrations for Leaves of Grass?

I don't know what subject matter your looking for, but Clive Barker has done several books that have illustrations. They're usually contained in the first print versions, and reprinted in his art books.
