Next week starts the
Read a Banned Book Week .
It is interesting to note that even today there are books that are banned in library's and schools in this country. A rather intesting list can be found at
About.com's Banned Books List an interesting book on the list is one of my childhood favorites:
A Light in the Attic is a book that's been beloved by young and old. The book is by Shel Silverstein. It has been banned because of "suggestive illustrations." One library also claimed that the book "glorified Satan, suicide and cannibalism, and also encouraged children to be disobedient."
Wikipedia provides a rather large list of books that have been banned if you are intersted in them, as well as some of the reasons that they were banned.
A list of some of the most commonly challenged (ie requested to be removed from a library) books.
