Dear Student,
It has come to my attention that you are disappointed with your grade on the last assignment. I wanted to take this time to thank you so much for causing a scene in class and then flouncing out in a huff. Thanks especially for doing this today, when I am sick but attempting to teach class in spite of feeling absolutely heinous. My tactic of attempting to speak privately with you to help you improve your grade by rewriting said assignment was obviously off point. It is much more productive for you to cry and stomp out of class angrily and refuse to talk with me. I am sure your way of doing things will improve your situation greatly. After all, alienating the person who actually does the grading is the surest way to an A. I can clearly see why my willingness to accommodate your busy schedule regarding the possibility of meeting outside of class was an obvious insult. Please forgive me for wanting to bend the rules in order to give you a chance for a better grade. Rest assured, I will never do it again.
Sincerely,
Your Instructor, TRH.
