I was asked this morning if I remember where I was when I heard about the crashes....
yeah..I remember, how can one forget it???
Was in City West Business Park, at the offices of AOL...in my cube across from the canteen...we had not yet moved to the fish bowl...
A group of us had just returned from lunch at the canteen...it was just a couple minutes after 2pm
I remember, very clearly..sitting at desk, cursing out a Nokia phone and emmulator when I got an AIM message from John asking me if I had heard? at that point...it was 2:09pm...never forget it
By this time, everyone around me was passing messages, chattering...people gathering at desks to read what was flashing across the news websites...everyone, including me was in shock...it took a couple seconds for the reality of it all set in...then my next thought was...DeAnn...
I remember rummaging through my purse to find a calling card...cutting my finger on a piece of paper...tossing most of the contents of my purse all over my desk and running off to a conference room...frantically trying to get ahold of her to make sure she and Chris were ok...
I finally got DeAnn on the phone...then I started to calm a bit.....but the rest of the day...I remember...was pretty much, sitting in the back entrance of the East building...watching a television that we had hooked up to get RTE..the images on the screen were snowy...scratchy...our reception was horrid...but we all sat on the floor or stood around and watched....
It is one of those times you can not erase from your memory...no matter how much you try..even today, the panic, the shock...I can still remember where the paper cut happened on my finger...I can still see us all watching that tele....I remember the look on my boss' face....I remember me crying, trying to get ahold of DeAnn....I can remember how a whole building of people stopped, watched and then were changed by what they saw...
it is not something that you only remember on one day, it is something you take with you for a life time...
