More Kitten Stuff

Lessee. First of all, the white kitten finally has a name -- Zen. I waffled for a long time, but settled on that one. He is doing wonderfully; he's ridiculously friendly and loves to follow me around the house and get under my feet ... when he's not sleeping under the couch.

We've picked up MK's chosen kitten. He had a much easier time naming her; he chose Lyric almost right away.

Lyric is easily the smallest kitten i have ever seen that is of an age to be separated from it's mother. She is literally a teeny tiny ball of fluff which weighs absolutely nothing. She's so soft and sweet, too. She has a silent meow, but her purr is very much like a harley davidson hawg. *chuckle* She's very loving and sweet and is quite happy to come running across the room when you speak in the 'kitten calling voice' to get some pettings and rubbings. She, like Zen, is going to be a shoulder cat, and has more than once sprawled out on the back of MK's chair like Zen has done. They will both sprawl on my chair/shoulders/neck/chest too -- apparently i am soft and cozy and if i am around they prefer laying on me over MK.

Zen was grumpy at Lyric for the first day, but they are getting along famously now. They curl up under the couch and snooze together, and don't have the least bit of trouble sharing any chosen perch -- whether it be the couch or a person.

Lyric got a flea bath pretty much the moment we got home, just like Zen did. Then two days later, they both got another. [Zen is climbing me right now...] The little girl was so amusing on her second bath, i swear that if she'd been a POW, she'd have been reciting her SSN over and over again. She was in an entirely different zone quite like she was just gonna stay still so it could be DONE. At the early part of that bath, she was walking through the water in the tub quite calmly; it makes me think that if the hassle of the -bath- wasn't involved, she just might be a water cat. Fleas seem to be almost nil now, which is going to be good for my head; the shampoo and the flea collars are -very- perfumey and I've pretty much had a migraine since they got their first bath. The scent lingers in Lyric's long fur quite strongly.

After they were dry from their bath, they both got their claws... nay, -talons-, trimmed. Both of them did beautifully. I put them on my lap laying on their backs and rubbed their bellies til they were relaxed and purring, then carefully trimmed up the claws. Right afterward, they got more belly rubs -- so it was generally a pretty good experience for them. We'll continue doing that so that they'll be easy to maintain as adults.

Their first vet trip is the same day that Anubis' follow up is scheduled. They'll both be carted up there in the cat carrier - i don't expect any troubles. On the original ride home Zen meowed at us for about 5m and then settled down, and Lyric didn't make a peep. Now, if only Mystic would take a lesson from them about car-rides...

Speaking of Anubis; he's back 'up' after his last Addison's crash. Also, thanks to Drs. Foster and Smith Pharmacy compounding his .1mg x4 into .4mg x1, he's down to four pills a day - two in the AM, and two in the PM. This makes -everyone's- life easier. His elbow still isn't fully healed, but that's probably a side effect of all of the medication he's on. Dr. Worth did say it may heal slowly.

Now, more Lyric photos: [If you are on Facebook, you've seen these and several videos, but there are people who aren't!]
