I almost punched an elderly man today.
No seriously. I am not kidding.
It went like this: MK and i were driving up to North Crestview to go to the post office. Up thata way there's something like an access road that travels alongside the main road about the width of a ditch or two away from the main flow of traffic. We usually turn onto that and take that to get to the post office, just because it's less cars. Or something. There's a stop sign or two, but it bypasses at least one stop light. Which means we, in the access road, breeze on by everyone else when they are stopped at the light at the high school. Pointing and laughing is optional, of course.
However, today - we watched a white sedan/suv combo fly. right. through. his. red. light. He had to slam on his breaks to avoid hitting a truck which had legitimately turned left on his green light onto the main road. We watched in awe and horror, fully expecting him to rear end the guy going full speed. He managed to not hit the dude, but we were left just shaking our heads thinking "WTF are people DOING out here?"
Now, the post office is just skip from that spot, so as we were turning into the side entrance, i idly watched the white car out of mild curiosity (and horror) to see where he might be going. He turned into the main turn in for the post office, and sure enough was coming to the same spot we were. I watched him park, by this time noticing he's a teeny little wrinkled old man. By this time my blood is boiling from watching the way that this dude was so careless about the rules of the road and not only his life, but the lives of the unsuspecting individuals and families around him. I walked up to his car and waited for him to open the door. When he did, i let him have it. I told him that if he couldn't pay attention to the street lights, he shouldn't be driving and he was an idiot. He asked me to repeat myself, so i screamed that he'd ran the red light and he was an idiot and shouldn't be driving if he can't pay attention. This is the part that gets me: he replied "What? Where did i run a red light?"
I snarled at him and turned my back on him and left. Because at that point i was literally about a centimeter from punching his elderly lights out. I stormed into the post office, still muttering (quite loudly) that he was a fool and shouldn't be driving and if i were in charge the requirements to maintain one's driver's license would be 100% more strict and rigid and must be performed yearly to keep the privilege and on and on and on.
I think that what gets me the MOST about this whole situation, as well as other like-situations where people are just plain careless -- is that when he takes himself out, the chances that he'll take some innocent bystander out with him is very. very. high.
It's raining. People are morons. I want to break something.
i fucking hate people,
in which i tell a story
