some poems come preassembled

all they need is a fresh pair of batteries, maybe a little wood-glue if you really want to customize, or you're a craftsman and see benefit in rearranging a few screws for agility or durability. they're ready to go right out of the box; write it, get it home, walk it across the coffee table a few times and it's ready for the stage.

this is not one of those poems.

i haven't written something this long (a shade over 2 pages) in, well, almost three years. it's scary. it's unwieldy.

it's times like these i'm so relieved i've got an editor who approaches my poems with a chisel. she is my Attack Editor, the only person more ruthless with my poems than i am. and i love her. it's a convenient situation. let psyches_task near your poems if you want only the polished stones inside them. if not for her, i'd still be chewing on coal, convinced it just keeps getting better every time.
