This weekend is One Month Before Heartbreak.
In a month's time the government consultation on reforms to Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will end. It's not really possible to describe the scale of the impact that cuts or changes to this benefit could have on people's lives.
There's a fantastic piece here on why DLA is so important.
There's more on some of the proposed changes and cuts here. If you've got time read through the links above, and read through the
blog posts or check out the #ombh hashtag on twitter. This matters. For many people DLA represents independence, dignity, freedom and quality of life.
Just because this doesn't directly affect you today, doesn't mean it won't in the future. DLA is the kind of benefit that anyone may need to claim one day. It doesn't matter how well off your family is, how hard you work, how long you've worked, if you've ever been on benefits before. Illness and disability don't take any of those things into account.

_stolendreams_ Guys, I can't even explain how important this is. I am so fucking terrified of what's going to happen next month. Please, please do all you can to help - even if that is 'just' doing a signal boost like this on LJ or twitter or wherever. Thank you. ♥
