Friends, Romans, Fl*sters, I have a quick question for those who are more google savy.  Does anyone know if Supernatural season 9 on DVD will be released in the UK soon? I have the Blu Ray on Pre order from Play.com, but I'm starting to hear some disconcerting noises about there not being enough interest in the show.  And the release date is being ( Read more... )

If you have a multi-region DVD player you could get the DVDs from Australia as we both use PAL. Lots of people here buy DVDs from the UK because a lot of times your DVDs are cheaper or you have access to shows we have trouble getting hold of. The really el-cheapo brands of DVD players are often multi-region or completely region free and will play almost anything as long as its the same format. It's the well known brands like Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, etc that lock regions. If you check out the pretty much no-name brands, you'll find that most play all PAL DVDs. My player cost a fortune and is locked, my mother's cost less than $50 and will play anything. It's a completely different story with Blu-Ray. Some are region locked, some aren't but they very rarely will let you know if they aren't.

My Blu-Ray player is a Samsung and it's region locked so I can only watch region 4 DVDs or Region 2 Blu-ray. My best friend has a Panasonic and it's locked too. The other option is to change the region on your computer, but beware, you can only do it a very limited number of times and then it will lock forever. If you don't normally use your computer to watch DVDs, you could set it with another PAL region (like Aus) and use it to watch Supernatural. It's extreme because you can't really change it back more than once, but it's also an option.

It's ridiculous that they've delayed the release indefinitely over there. I thought it was bad here having our release date six weeks behind the USA. As far as I'm concerned, all DVDs should be released worldwide at the same time. It's not like you're asking for the DVDs to be free. If people are paying I don't see why it's an issue.

Have you thought of using one of those online petition sites to start up a petition that UK people could sign? If you present them with a buttload of signatures surely they would capitulate.

The irony is I do have an old multi regional DVD player! But my bright and shiny Toshiba Blu Ray player will only let me play the European discs (bugger).

I think the reason I'm so hacked off is it's just a matter of principal, yes I can and probably will import a disc. But the point is I shouldn't have to, if that makes any sense.

I agree, you shouldn't have to. It's beyond ridiculous to delay releasing the goddamn videos for such a long time. I can't fathom WBs reasoning behind it. I couldn't even understand why here in Australia we didn't have the same DVD release date as the USA, after all, it had finished airing here. And if there is no TV network to air it at all in the UK then why delay it?

Just shout if you need any help with stuff, and good luck with the fight!
