This is the "I Suffered Through Half A Season and 4 Months of Hiatus With No Pilot Secks and All I Got Was This Lousy Picspam" thread. :)
Basically, after seeing
jetgirl78 's brilliant picspam on 'He That Believeth In Me', I got a jones for a pilots-themed picspam. Yeah, it's been done before, but I felt like doing it anyway! I'm going to try to slowly go through all the pilot moments (real and imagined) in 4.0 in the lead-up to 4.5. So look out for an episode play-by-play in the coming weeks/months.
This will attempt to be an interactive spam, so please chime in!
Warning! Image-heavy!
So, in case you missed it or are just tuning in, last season on The Starbuck And Apollo show...
Starbuck got blowed up.
And Lee got sad.
Then a bunch of boring stuff happened involving justice and the human condition and yadda yadda yadda while Starbuck was a) dead, b) on a higher plane, c) on Earth or d) none of the above. You decide!
Luckily, our girl decided to save the series by showing up in the last 2 minutes of the finale with tidings from Earth!
And Lee was all, 'bzuh?' (You'll notice Starbuck inspires very interesting Leexpressions)
So season four started with two riders approaching (that's pilots, for you slow people reading), and raise your hand if you think their connection to the lyrics of 'All Along The Watchtower' is going to be important to the resolution of this story. Jo may have to cut a bitch if this turns out to be nothing.
Anyway, what was I saying? Oh, yeah. Leexpression.
"Did you not hear me? I've been to Earth." Kara's wondering why Lee's acting like a douche, especially considering the fact that she just told him she found the home of the Thirteenth Tribe.
I've seen fans criticize Lee for how disbelieving and seemingly cold he is towards Kara in this first scene, but can you blame him? He probably just assumes he's gone batshit crazy and is seeing a ghost.
But then Kara sends him a flirty, "Don't lose me this time, Apollo" which probably hurts more than she could ever realize...
...and Lee is on board the Starbuck train. There's "not a chance" that he's losing her again. Oh, look at the heartbreaking eagerness on his face!
After a delicious space-porny battle, Starbuck lands on Galactica, climbs out of her viper and hits the deck, not understanding why everyone is standing far away and staring at her with shock and suspicion.
Lee, however...
You can pretty much hear how hard he tackle-hugs her.
And this is where Kara's facial expressions and reactions are fascinating to me. Watch closely. Are you watching? She goes from taken aback, to confused, to pleased....and then back to WTFery. Best acting EVAR!
"OK, me too. It's ok."
But he's heard her tell him "It's OK" before and will have none of it. He just pulls her closer, tears on his cheeks.
They are rudely interrupted by the show's guest star, Samuel T. Anders, and our noble Lee reluctantly pulls away from Kara and lets her husband embrace her. Again, pay attention to Kara's body language. She's not expecting Lee's nearness (the events of Maelstrom feel like only a few hours ago to her) and she's clearly affected by it. She can barely take her eyes off him.
Starbuck tells The Boss that she's found Earth, but Admiral Atheist isn't buying it. He orders the marines to surround her. And maybe this is my own delusion but it sure seems like the first person Kara looks to when this happens is, you guessed it - Lee!
Lee also gradually gravitates towards Kara while she tries to figure out what the fuck is going on. And seems about to reach out to touch her, till the evil editor of this episode decided to cut the moment short.
This next scene is interesting for many reasons, but since this is the Special SASA Edit, let's focus on THE LOOK.
...Yeah. That was it. But in all honesty, Kara obviously doesn't think Lee believes her at this point. I'm still a little confused as to what he believes about Kara. I know he definitely doesn't care whether or not she's a cylon, but does he think she is one? Does he really believe that she saw Earth? Does he...believe in the gods now? What do you think?
Judging by his expressions, his brain is hurting a bit just thinking about it. Poor Lee. *gives him a brain massage*
Whatever he thinks, he defends her tooth and nail against the doubters.
"Maybe...Kara is the clue we were supposed to find." You gotta love this boy's leap of faith. It's so contrary to his nature. But this is Starbuck we're talking about, so that's par for the course, right?
Later on, in CIC, Kara feels completely and utterly alone, with even the man she considers to be her father seeming to turn his back on her.
Somebody should have told her the title of the episode. LEE BELIEVES IN YOU, BABY.
He watches her ship explode. Over and over again. Hell, he saw it happen with his own two eyes.
And yet, even as the explosion on the screen flashes in his eyes, he chooses to believe his heart.
He tries to convince his father. But...it looks more like he's singing him a jaunty tune. Is it a) Country (the music of pain), b) Emo Rock (the kind that makes you want to cut yourself), or c) Celine Dion? Cast your vote now!
*cue Jeapardy music*
OK. The polls are in.
Don't cry, emo kid.
Meanwhile, Starbuck stares at a picture of herself on Memorial Wall (please let her talk to Lee about this at some point in 4.5), her comment about no one taking it down again reiterating her doubt that anyone has faith in her.
Sam tells her he loves her no matter what, bless his heart. He loves her, but does he believe her?
Kara gets a major migraine and decides to pistol-whip her hubby. Best Aspirin Ever!
That is the look of relief.
Just kidding. Sammy's a cutie. Not the brightest crayon in the box, but he's got a good heart.
Stay tuned for next week to find out whether Starbuck actually shoots the Prez, or if Madame Airlock offers her some premium New Caprica ganja to chill her out instead.
Till next time!
