Whoo-OOO Whooo Whoooo......
Since it has been forever since my last actual LJ/DW update, I thought I would actually do so by sharing something cute and precious. No, really.
Not too long ago, both Kevin and I noticed a mourning dove nesting in the fern on his front porch. Of course, we caught the hen too late: She surreptitiously sneaked in (flew in?), built a nest, and laid not one, but two eggs! Yes, it is very, very cute, but at the same time, it is dangerous for her because -- stupid her -- she built her nest in a human high-traffic location. Her nest is literally two feet from the mail-box; also, Kevin and I check for the news paper every day, which means that we actually have to exit and enter through the front door. Sometimes I will go out the side door and take the long way, but most times I just don't want to deal with the hassle.
Although; the hen is brave. On Independence Day, Kevin watered the fern with the hen still perched in it. She never moved...but she was very wary of the watering can that was right next to her nest. After that, Kevin hung a patriotic bumper to celebrate the holiday, but she didn't like that at all. She flew off and never returned during the whole thirty minutes the bumper was hanging from the eve. I freaked out and removed it, and she came right back. The thought of abandoned eggs broke my heart, so I did her that favor. She also allows me to take pictures of her...although she does look at me with a quizzical eye.
The nest is adorable, as are the eggs in it, and the hen, too. I hope to hear little "cheap cheaps" coming from the nest soon. She really makes my heart melt with love.
