What's been happening? Not much really, mostly boring car stuff which I have been trying hard to not fill my LJ up with, sadly this event has slipped through the net, so suffer. Casper, Gerald (car enthusiast type dude) and myself went out to the police training grounds (right near the Melbourne Airport). We spent 30 minutes being taught the basics of car handling (which I found very interesting, sad), the guy immediately asked "you guys just want to power oversteer right?". He had us down to a tee ;).
Crazed D1 sliders, or more accurately a bunch of nissan owners out for some fun :).
The place is basically a large bowl of concrete with sprinklers to keep it wet and some diesel to add extra slippage. With Kevin, the instructor, at our sides we went around and around practising all manner of ways to lose control. After that Kevin took the wheel and showed us how it's actually done, and then we got to go around for another 30 odd minutes on our own. Some people were very cautious and took a lot of provoking to slide, others, like me, took no provocation at all. In my first run I think I took out nearly every cone and spun out many many times :D.
Yeah check out my sooper camera angles! That's Gerald's S13 Silvia sliding it up.
Everyone had way too much fun, and learnt a lot about our cars. By the end of the day I managed a full lock (steering wheel all the way around) lap without spinning out. Totally stoked about that.
FULL LOCK!!
Casper going hard, apparently if he adjusted his air vents while sliding (i'm totally serious about this) he found it easier to control the car.
