Surprisingly dark for YA, is my overall impression; the last hundred pages or so in particular are the sort of thing I'd be thinking it might freak out the youngest and most sensitive viewers. I think she's done everything she had to do to set things up for the knock-down drag-out "YOU DIRTY RAT, YOU KILLED MY BROTHER" sort of deal that we've always known #7 will be (I can totally see the logic of The Death, and in fact I was thinking it would be this character in #5 but I can see how much better it works at this story-beat of the overall arc) , but I'm not decided yet on how well she actually pulled it off, as such. Will sleep on it and let other people have a chance to catch up before I risk saying anything more...

Yes, I thought The Death was very appropriate too. As for how well she pulled it off...RAUGH! I'm still holding out hope that All Was Not As It Seemed. (And if Book Seven proves me wrong, I'm staking out a homestead in Denial Land!)

I *am* excited by the fact that #7 is going to be radically different from all the others. (Though that was pretty predictable already, I guess.)

Yeah, but this many? Surmises were that five million would be shipping just this weekend. Shipping from Amazon.com, I mean--that doesn't include all those already in book stores. That would create more used books than Dianetics!

I was at Borders last night for the midnight party. :-) They were doing 125 customers ever fifteen minutes. (Five hundred an hour. I was #532.)

I knew I would be able to pick one up for a dollar or two at the Friends of the Library sale this September, but I decided to join in the fun for once and bought new. It should arrive on Sunday.

The FOL isn't getting this one, though.
