Recommended reading
Of course all reading is subjective, but I found "On the Highway", by Francesca Forrest, a perfect short story. It surprised me, and moved me. The imagery was so vivid and precise.
It takes places New Year's Eve, but really, can be read at any time, the fantastical element subtly and seamlessly worked in.
