hello 2017

Jan 01, 2017 05:52

Time to give it up and make some tea. Sirens have been roaring by every five to ten minutes for the last hour, and intermittently before that, starting about 2:30 a.m. Either there are a whole lot of drunk drivers out there crashing right and left, or all Los Angeles has risen against their overlords.

Yep--including as I type this.

An uprising wouldn't be a bad way to start 2017. Happy New Year!

Happy new year to you at the other end of the continent!

Unfortunately, given how so many people seem to think that the proper way to ring in the New Year is not just with one toast, but with heavy drinking, I daresay that the police and EMS are responding to a lot of drunk-driving accidents. And other kinds of accidents in which alcohol is involved, since it affects judgment in all things. At least now that smoking is no longer ubiquitous, it's less likely that someone slips into a drunken slumber with a lit cigarette and sets the house on fire.

I hope things settle down soon so you can get some sleep, and that 2017 is a good year for you.

Sleep is gone for the day, but that's fine--I don't have school to teach! I don't mind being tired in retirement (in truth, only once or twice a year do I sleep through the night anyway)at least it's been quiet for half an hour.

Could be house fires. I would have guessed a zillion house fires due to the fireworks going off from about ten to one a.m. but we actually had rain, yesterday, so the roofs are not tinder dry as they have been all year. They are wet. I have no idea what was going on, but it was wild for a couple hours there.

House fires from careless use of fireworks are a real possibility. I still remember the summer of 2012, when everything here was tinder-dry and we had fireworks bans, but people were shooting them off anyway.

Another possibility might be celebratory gunfire. Here the IMPD put out a warning about the dangers of shooting firearms into the air, and a reminder that discharging a firearm in the city limits (other than in self-defense or at an approved range) is a criminal offense and officers *will* respond.

Could be, though this was waves of sirens, in masses, for about two hours.

Do you think someone had an accident with fireworks?

Of course a drunk driving accident on the freeway wouldn't be unheard of either, would it?

We were thankfully free of sirens last night, but I didn't notice it until I read your entry.

It was waves of sirens, one after another, for about two hours.

Thank you!

I always check the Boulder Creek weather report when I check ours, and when you get rain, it makes me smile. I think of that pure air, and those wonderful redwoods soaking it in.

Huh, no idea what that is, will have to check. Certainly no big news around here, in spite of that massive and noisy rollout!

some pranksters altered the HOllywood sign to read Hollyweed, since dope will be legal in CA now..
